We haven't heard from Squeaker's birthmom in nearly 2 years. The last email I received from her was when he was 3 weeks old. We've sent her monthly emails and photos for the past 2 years, but have had no response. The emails never bounced back, so we assume she's been receiving them.
Her life situation was very complicated, so her silence wasn't totally unexpected. Add to that complexity the grief, fear, loss, trauma, mixed emotions ... all those things that rise up when a child is placed for adoption. We expected it would take time. Time to heal, time to cope, time to figure out how she feels, where she wants to go with all of this. We've just been keeping her name and memory alive for our little boy and doing the best we can to keep the door open.
Tonight she friended me on Facebook. I had looked for her there, but wasn't able to find her. I'm glad she found us. I wasn't sure she'd be looking. I haven't replied yet. I needed to take a breath first.
She and Squeaker share their birthday, and she wants us to call her that day. Of course we will. Of course.
I'm delighted, stunned, nervous, elated, speechless ...
Oh, what wonderful news!
