Thank you for the detailed and thought-provoking comments to my last post. It's been a trying few days, but I think our little household has developed a new understanding of where certain boundaries lie, as well as a new appreciation for the value of open communication -- or, shall we say, communication period. It's obviously going to be an ongoing process, but we seem to have moved beyond the worst of it.
(And I thought the hard part would be over once we finally had a baby -- HA!!)
Squeaker wants you to know that he's happy the shouting is over and his parents vented most of their accumulated steam ... just in time to sign a heap o' steaming documents by which they will become first-time home owners. We'll get the keys on Thursday -- whee!
It wasn't our first choice house, but it will be a good home -- built with a focus on sustainability and full of resource-efficient features -- all in all, a positive compromise. And we couldn't have afforded our first picks anyway. That's the problem with waiting until you're in your 40s to buy a first home ... by that time, your tastes have developed way beyond starter houses.
The Mister, of course, will have a room for his home office, but there's also a little sunny room where we'll put my desk and piano. My work has been squeezed into corners of our living spaces for years, so the thought of closing that door behind me when I need to focus is heaven. The best part, though, is that Squeaker will finally have his own room! I'll finally have a nursery to decorate ... and a place to put all of this baby crap paraphernalia!
Our little guy is excited too! Not sure he'll still be smiling when we explain to him that he's going to have his own crib to sleep in, but we'll cross that scream stream when we get there.
Congratulations! I'm hoping to have a room for Rachael by the fall, although she insists she won't sleep in it...
Glad you're recuperating from the tensions of the past few days. You can always vent to me if you like (I owe you for days gone by!)
